Blood Pathology Markers

Understanding which blood pathology markers to request from your GP is so important!

It empowers you to take a more active role in your health care. You only find what you’re looking for (or know what to ask for), and certain markers such as cholesterol levels, blood glucose, liver and kidney function and nutrient deficiencies can reveal early signs of conditions like diabetes, heart disease or anemia before symptoms appear.

Below, I’ve included a list of routine blood pathology tests that you can take in and request from your GP. Keep in mind, if they tell you they cannot do any of them, you can offer to pay privately or have the tests issued through a qualified practitioner such as a naturopath or clinical nutritionist.

FBC (Full blood count) Looks at red and white blood cell count
E/LFT’s Investigates the function of your kidney and liver
• Lipids Looks at cholesterol, HDL/LDL, triglycerides etc
HbA1c 3 month look in at your glucose control
Fasting Insulin Key marker in glucose control and metabolic health
hsCRP/ESR Markers investigating system inflammation
Active B12 & Folate Measures a more accurate form of B12
Homocysteine A key cardiovascular maker but also a reflection of methylation activity
B6 A key nutrient for hormones, brain health and metabolism
Iron Studies Looking for iron deficiency signs
RBC Zinc Looks at the zinc that reflects intracellular zinc concentration
Total IgE Looking at any heightened immune/allergy response
Vitamin D Very important hormone involved in immune regulation, mental health etc

The above is a good starting point. If you want a further testing you could include:

Full Thyroid Panel TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Thyroid Antibodies (TPO, TgAb) (Often is difficult to get or will have to pay for)
Full Hormone Panel Testosterone (Total and Free), Estrogen (estradiol), Progesterone, LH, FSH, SHBG, DHEA-s (ideally on Day 19–21 of your cycle - Day 1 being first day of a menstruation)
ANA Screening for autoimmune responses

RECOVERING FROM ANTIBIOTIC USE?

You may have been following along, but recently I’ve been working on expanding the Seed & Sprout Nutrition store. You can now find practitioner-designed toolkits, eBooks, and product bundles specially curated by me, designed to support your health journey. From skin and microbiome support to ADHD meal plans and more, there’s a growing collection available. I’ll be adding new resources regularly. I’m also working behind the scenes on a really exciting new program that I think you’ll love. It’s focused on a topic I see far too often in clinic.

So STAY TUNED!

The ReFlourish Gut Healing Bundle is something I’m deeply passionate about, especially given the overuse of antibiotics and the damage I so often see as a result. (Of course, they’re sometimes necessary, but they’ve become a first line of defence rather than the last.)

This bundle is ideal for anyone wanting to take a proactive, evidence-based approach to gut repair after antibiotics. It provides trusted guidance and high-quality, practitioner-selected products,  all in one place.
